Review: iTOM workshop surgical training

iTOM workshop surgical training

In the workshop Surgical Training on December 3, 2014 at ISTT, we presented results from our ESF funded project iTOM (Testing of Innovative Training Concepts for the Operative Medicine).

In the past two years, we conducted a trial series on pedagogic-didactic and technological competences in surgical specialist training in Saxony and Extremadura, Spain. Together with our project partner JUMISC we developed a Train-the-Trainer concept and tested it in several hospitals.

The train-the-trainer courses were widely appreciated by the participating surgeons. From the feedback of surgeons and experts we realized that there is a need for such a training.

In the workshop, we to discussed opportunities to embed our training concept in the Saxonian health care system with experts in the field of surgical specialist training, among them representatives of the Saxonian Ministry of Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, inpass, and the University Hospital Leipzig. Furthermore, ideas for new European projects on this topic were considered and the forthcoming EU project at ISTT, SurgTTT, was introduced.
